Nobody wants a kitchen that looks like a cookie-cutter version of what everyone else has. One way to avoid this redundancy is to completely customize the appearance in order to showcase your unique personality and aesthetic. You can do this by designing a custom kitchen that mixes and matches different styles in order to make a completely custom, one-of-a-kind look that is all uniquely yours.

When looking for inspiration on things like Pinterest or home design magazines, you are more than likely to find many different things that you would love to be in your own kitchen. There is a common misconception amongst homeowners that believe you need to stick to one specific kitchen style in order to achieve a cohesive appearance. Luckily, you do not have to abide by this belief! Now-a-days, you are free to select virtually anything you want to mix and match elements of your kitchen. This includes styles like contemporary, country, traditional, farmhouse, coastal, modern, and much more. You can use all these styles and much more to design the kitchen of your dreams, all you need to do is know how to perfectly pair them together for a dazzling distinctive mix.

When looking for an easy way to add your personal flair to your kitchen by mixing and matching, our team at TEKA Kitchen has come up with some handy pointers you can use when you are designing your new kitchen.

Contrast Your Cabinets and Floor

Two of the most important things in a kitchen are the floor and cabinets. When someone walks into your kitchen, the very first thing they will notice is the floor and cabinets. Luckily, there are endless possibilities to behold when it comes to mixing and matching flooring and cabinetry. Allowing this design formula to be the most fun to conquer throughout the whole process. Flooring is a great way to balance out the whole look and feel of your kitchen, no matter if you are looking for traditional tile flooring, natural hardwood, or vinyl.

If you want modern kitchen cabinets, this doesn’t mean that your flooring needs to match. All you need to do is match your cabinets with your countertop with one style and mix these with flooring from another style. For instance, coastal flooring with a modern kitchen is the perfect contrasting aesthetic. These two styles pair beautifully together and give you a unique look to your kitchen. If you are looking for a neutral colour palette, consider mixing this with modern cabinets and open shelving with a traditional subway backsplash. But if a clean and neutral appearance is what you love, a worry you might have is incorporating some sort of colourful aspect in the space for fear it will take away from the aesthetic you are going for. Contrary to this, you will actually find that you can pair sleek modern elements with a coastal style wood flooring in order to bring warmth to this seemingly drab space. However, this is only one example of how contrasting styles are able to pair beautifully together in order to create a delightful cohesive kitchen design. The possibilities are endless and can only be limited to your imagination!

Cabinet Styles- Blending Different Ones

Do you like modern and sleek kitchen cabinets that are white? Is the idea of displaying your dishes and glassware on open shelving tantalizing? Or do you like colourful kitchen cabinets? You can use your personality to highlight certain kitchen cabinet styles that can mix modern and traditional designs.

In the past, whatever kitchen cabinet style you picked had to be installed throughout the whole kitchen, this included the upper cabinets, lower cabinets, and island cabinets. But now, people are branching out and deciding to break free of that historical mold by incorporating a mixture of cabinet colous and styles.

For anyone who prefers traditional kitchen cabinets but wants to add a twist of flair in the room, should think about adding a couple upper cabinets that have glass doors, allowing you to display and show off your glassware. Or if you want to do something similar but different, you can install lower cabinets and utilize modern open shelving above in order to display your dishes and glassware in the open. Multi-toned kitchen cabinets are another fantastic way to mix and match styles in a way that you can fall in love with. If you don’t want your cabinets to be the same colour, perhaps you can choose to have complementary shades for your upper and lower cabinets. Or if you want something slightly more subtle, you can make your island cabinets a different colour from the other colour in your kitchen.

We cannot stress enough about how there are so many endless ways you can mix and match kitchen cabinet styles. It doesn’t matter what you decide to do, you are guaranteed to fall in love with how you get a high-end aesthetic that is uniquely your own.

Appliances- Make Them Stand Out

The colour and style of your cabinets is one of the first things you will decide on when you are designing your kitchen. This selection can vary depending on if you are looking for a traditional, modern, or coastal appearance. You will see that a common trend for many homeowners is to match kitchen cabinet styles with the appliances. Most often, appliances are hidden with the appearance of a cabinet front. This allows for a fully encompassing kitchen style. But if you’re looking to break the status quo, don’t blend or hide your appliances in your kitchen, get appliances that are a completely different style in order to highlight them and make them stand out!

Using white or black kitchen appliances is a great way to incorporate a more unique look into your kitchen, rather than using traditional stainless steel. Remanence in the 60’s and 70s when they used colourful pastel appliances. Today, people are now using vibrant, high-end appliances as a focal point once again. They are choosing appliances in sleek emerald and gold, to pastel blue, and many other colours. Perhaps you enjoy modern cabinets but love old-fashioned appliances? So, who says there’s a rule dictating that you can’t have the best of both worlds? No matter your favourite style of cabinets, you don’t need to be like everyone else, your appliances don’t need to follow the same style.
